FASTag is a tag which has a chip that can be affixed on the vehicle windscreen for enabling the automatic collection of toll charges for National Highways. This system is designed in a way to provide ease to the passengers as the provision of stopping on the toll plazas for collection of toll charges would be replaced by this system which will automatic deduct the charges from your linked bank account through scanning the chip on the windscreen of the vehicle, with every car passing by. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways asserted the FASTag system to be mandatory from 1st December 2019 but later it was extended.
How does FASTag function?
Once active, the tag on the vehicle uses a radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for automatic deduction. When your vehicle crosses a toll booth enabled with FASTag technology, you receive an SMS alert on your registered mobile number mentioning deducted amount and the balance in your account.
Documents Required to get a FASTag
- Registration certificate (RC) of your vehicle
- Passport size photograph of the vehicle owner.
- Know Your Customer (KYC) documents of the vehicle owner : Address Proof, Identity Proof

Where to get FASTag?
FASTag can be obtained either at the toll plazas or issuer agencies such as banks (22 certified banks), Amazon, Paytm. These issuer banks have an online form which needs to be filled by the customer and later on, query is generated whereupon the customer has to visit office or ask for a home visit to fill up another required form and has to submit necessary documents to create FASTag Account.
